Method to grow:::

Crop season: It can be grown all year round but the most favorable period is cold season.

Cycle length: between 45 to 60 days from sowing to end of harvest depending on the variety.

Sowing: There are two kind of sowing for lettuces. Direct or in nursery. You sow one seed per holes of 2 cm. Then, you can put rice straw, which will favored germination, and
avoided watering bad effects like crust formation. After germination, you will use net
to prevent seedling from sunlight and rains. Use of Plastic Mulching before Transplanted
If you decide to sow in nursery with Tray, to favor an early harvest, lettuces have to be transplanted 15 or 20 days after sowing.

Preparation of the soil: This preparation must broken soil crust and works in the first 30 cm of the ground. Then a superficial plugging is advised.
High of beds have to be 15 to 20 cm in hot season and about 30 cm in rainy season.
Spacing between plants and rows is between 25 cm leading to a density of 16 plants / m2.
To clean the soil where you will plant finally, you can incorporate a fungicide when you
prepare it: Iprodione, 750g/Ha (it has to be used at least 3 week before harvesting).
Lettuces have to be planted or transplanted in dry soil in the evening.

Watering will be done after (without excess).

Fertilization: At planting or transplanting stage a basal fertilization is required. This
fertilization will help roots development of young plants. It’s composed of:
• 40 –50 g/m2 of Mila Fertilizer
• 10 -20 g/m2 of DAP
• 2 -3 kg/m2 of compost made from Horse or Cow Manure.
40 days after sowing, you can apply 10 g of Urea for 8 litters of water to help the growing of the lettuce.

Weeds: Weeds have to be check out the more often farmers can.

Spraying itinerary: In nursery stage (15 first days), lettuces are too small to be attacked by pests. Treatments will start 3 weeks after sowing.
You will use Decis (7.5g / Ha) against noctuidae. COC 85 (1.5 kg/Ha) every week and stop at least 4 days before Harvesting
You have to stop to use this fungicide at least 10 days before harvesting.
